Water I spotted these water drums at the 2012 nw flower & garden show. We finally decided on our concept after our visit to the drum garden designed by dan corson at cedar river watershed education center in september. we were captivated by the rhythmic sounds of water falling on the drums.
Water These sounds are the heartbeat, the sounds of amniotic fluid, and voices heard from inside the womb. in our garden these sounds are represented by the drums, water in the stream, and sounds of voices that will be heard as people gather on the patio. Edible plants tucked into the landscape, textures made from cast shadows, simulated sounds of raindrops upon drums, fragrant flowers, and other delights tingle our minds, and relax our souls. a melodious sound of water droplets falling on drums carry through the garden. We started working on the water distribution system with paul sorey. paul built this circuit board that will work with the solenoid valves to create our drum rhythms. Whereas other display gardens featured a live pianist, a guitarist, a banjo on a seat, this garden used delicate drops of water to make sculptural drums resonate below.
